Taco Del Mar

We went to Taco Del Mar for dinner this evening. This was the third or fourth time I had eaten at this place....I keep trying it hoping that it will be better...however, that will be my last visit. A quesadilla combo and a mondo burrito combo was just over $18. Certainly a lot of food for two but absolutely no flavour!!! The two things that did have flavour, the melted cheese with the chips and the salsa, were just spicy and not tasty. So Taco Del Mar I bid you adios!!!!

BC Provincial Election

I don't know who I'm going to vote for in the coming provincial election. I can't stand the NDP; nor can I stand the local Liberal candidates.

So what is a person to do?

Regardless I will find a way to have my say as I believe everyone should vote....

You Go Girl!!!!

I just had the privilege of watching the UTUBE video of Susan Boyle and am thrilled for her!!!!

Her voice is amazing, but more than that was her ability to deliver a shocker that no one saw coming!!!! The audience, including the girl who rolled her eyes, and the judges got exactly what they deserved for judging the cover before playing that record!!!!

So Ms. Boyle...I will be sad if I never hear your voice again, but what you did to those people was awesome!!!

You rock and I hope you continue to do so!!!!!

Hoja

A little funkier with the cooks and the grill right at the front window than the original Mongolian Grill that was on the North Shore, Hoja offers up a tried and true way of dining out. Choose your meat, noodles, vegetables and sauces and wait in line to have your food grilled. Oh right and do this as many times as you want. While there is not much to this concept, it seems to be very popular in Kamloops. The two times I have been there it has been fairly busy as there has been a line to get through the food and then to have the food cooked. My food has always been good, but then again how can I complain when I choose all of the food and sauces myself.

The servers and cooks are friendly and seem to be able to keep the food area clean and full and the grill clean and organized. My only real complain about the place is the layout. It makes for very crowded dining and very impersonal conversations.

I don't know the prices off hand but an all you can eat lunch is about $11.00 and the all you can eat dinner is not quite $17.00.

While I will return to this restaurant, I'm not sure I can recommend it as fast food or for the lack of intimacy it provides. Whatever it is, as long as it continues to have a fresh, clean food bar I'm sure it will do well.

A&W

I don't eat fast food very often and for good reason apparently. Last week, I made the unfortunate mistake of going to A&W for a teen burger, onion rings and diet root beer. The root beer was great; the rest...cold and tasteless. Usually, I can count on A&W onion rings but not that evening.

Next time I need a burger fix, I'll take more time, spend more money and go to White Spot, Milestones and may be even Earls.

La Vista Mexican Grill

I look at my receipt and I see El Mariachi on the top. I know I know...what am I thinking? Especially given my last experience at El Mariachi...but you never know; there might be a good reason to open a second location and thus a good reason to try the second location...

Unfortunately, not for this restaurant.

The upholstery and carpet needs updating or at least a good cleaning. The baskets, which the chips and salsa are served in, need to be replaced since they have dried salsa on them...dried salsa looks like...Oh I won't go there...The service was okay...The food was pricey and well blah...My dining partner really didn't feel well after her meal...not sure what it was ...the food or the uncleanliness...

Anyways there is nothing special or different from El Mariachi to try this restaurant for. And certainly nothing for the hotel guests to write home about.

Zorbas Greek House
Tranquille Rd, Kamloops

I was really excited to compare this new Greek restaurant to the tried and true places in town. And the calamari dinner did not disappoint. For those who don't normally like the texture of calamari, well Zorbas takes that typically rubbery seafood and makes it melt in your mouth good. Everything else is typical - the rice, potatoes, pita, Greek salad, the decor and the price of this meal, $17.95. What I found outlandish was the price of the extras. At other places in town, you can get a prawn and calamari dinner for about $21/$22. This combination plate does not exist at Zorbas; you have to ask for a skewer of prawns. But don't make the mistake I did; ask for the price of your extras! One skewer of six/seven prawns cost me $12.95. That made my meal just under $31.00 - quite expensive for a meal in a Greek restaurant. Yes, I will probably try this restaurant again, but I will make sure I have my wallet with me and leave my piggy cravings at home.
