Ladykillers
Tom Hanks, dressed as a cross between the devil and Col. Sanders, plays "Professor" G.H. Dorr. This smooth talking southern gentleman arrives at Marva Munson's doorstep one afternoon looking for a room to rent. He also manages to secure the root cellar for he and his cohorts to play classical music. The group Dorr assembles plan to do more than play music; they plan to dig through the root cellar to the offices of the floating casino to take all of its money. They cover up their workings by playing classical music on a little ghetto blaster. The most interesting part of the movie occurs when they have gotten the money but are foiled by Marva Munson, who must be disposed of. What happens after that is really at the discretion of a higher power.

The characters assembled are really stereotypical. There is the bad ass African American boy, the dumb jock and the straight laced, disciplined,cold-heart Asian military general. Even the old lady is boring and predictable.

I went to this movie because I was curious to see Tom Hanks play a different type of character. Tom Hanks brought very little to this role. The combination of characters he assembled was really quite unlikely. Even so, there was little chemistry or depth between any of them.

This movie tried hard to be quirky. However, the whole thing isn't funny enough to be quirky, nor is it quirky enough to be funny. The whole thing fell flat. It is best to skip this movie even when it comes out on video.
