Molly's Veil
by Sharon Bajer
Sagebrush Theatre, Kamloops
January 25-February 3, 2007

I was disappointed last night to see how few people were out to see this play.

While there were a few characters I felt were unnecessary, Janet Michael as Charlotte Whitton and Martha Irving as Margaret Grier are excellent in their roles. For those who don't know, Charlotte Whitton was the first female mayor of a major city in Canada. She also fought for the rights of parents of illegitimate children in Alberta. Sharon Bajer found inspiration for her play from letters sent from Margaret to Charlotte.

The director, Mary Ellen MacLean, was successful in bringing out not only the spirit of these two women but also the nature of their relationship.

This is a play that requires attention and a bit of thought. Yes, there were minor technical difficulties throughout the show. But, generally it was well-done and very thought-provoking.

Given the nature of this story, Kamloops City Council, one councillor in particular, should take in this show. Perhaps they would have a better understanding of the nature of love, relationships and personal responsibility.
