Meinhardts
Granville St, Vancouver

I was really impressed with this store when I went into it the first time. I loved the layout, the products and of course the deli counter.

This last time I went in I was disappointed. Not because of any of the above mentioned...but because of the behaviour of the staff.

The afternoon I was in there a Canuck player walked in. As soon as that happened, the staff was abuzz.

One woman said that she would never date a hockey player. Well I wasn't that close to her and I heard her; I suppose their esteemed guest also heard it. Then they gathered to talk amongst themselves. One woman even followed him just to get a better look.

I would have thought that the staff of a high-end grocery store would be used to seeing local celebrities. More than that, I would have thought that the staff would know how to behave in a discreet professional way. Really the behaviour of the staff was anything but discreet or professional.

There was a very happy boy who walked into the store with his mother. Their sole purpose - to get this Canuck's autograph. Perhaps the staff should follow the example of this little boy and be direct and happy to serve whomever comes in to shop.

By the way girls at Meinhardts: did you ever think that a hockey player would not want to date a shop girl from a high-end grocery?
