Victoria Oriental Restaurant
Victoria Street, Kamloops, BC
For a Chinese restaurant in Kamloops, this one is okay. They claim to make their own dim sum unlike others who order from the suppliers in Vancouver. I love the green leak cakes. Other favourites include the spicy green beans and won ton soup.
However, I must warn that service in the restaurant is horrible. On a busy night my family and I went in. To accommodate more conservative tastes, we ordered a dinner for four. The appetizers came quickly. After that, it was at least 30 minutes before the first dish came. That sat cold while we waited for the other dishes that are included in this meal. In the meantime, we watched several others come in to pick up their orders. An hour after ordering the fried rice came. Shortly after, the server returned to take away the fried rice because it had been cooked incorrectly. It was at that point we decided enough was enough and time to go. Very generously, I paid for what we had eaten. They packed up the rice, the cold dish and one other that was finally ready and we went home.
Despite the terrible service, I still like the food. In that case, I will never go there for a sit down meal again as it seems the take out orders get higher priority and better service.

2011 Favourites
So it has been a while since I have written...and much has changed in our fair city....
Today I want to write about a few of my favourites...with specifics to follow in the near future.
The Art We Are - casual, calm lunches - try the lasagne, tomato soup with corn bread and chocolate cake.
Victoria Oriental Restaurant - try leek cakes, wonton soup and spicy beans
Brownstone Restaurant - high end but worth the cost...love sitting there and enjoying the atmosphere...
So indulge and enjoy!

Blenz
This past week I went to Blenz, now located in the old Bank of Montreal Building in downtown Kamloops. They seem to have same offerings as other coffee shops - tea, coffee (of course) squares...nothing new from where I sat...
However, it provides a different option from the uncomfortable chairs at Zacks or from the unfriendly service that I have experienced at the place across the street.
Blenz offered comfortable seating options and from my first encounter the servers seemed quite friendly.
So I look forward to seeing how this coffee shop fares after its first three months and if the alternatives it seems to provide will be enough to survive next to its longstanding competition.

Public Enemies
Even though it stars Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, this movie as its title implies is a menace to society!

Taco Del Mar
Summit Village, Kamloops, BC
We went to Taco Del Mar for dinner this evening. This was the third or fourth time I had eaten at this place....I keep trying it hoping that it will be better...however, that will be my last visit. A quesadilla combo and a mondo burrito combo was just over $18. Certainly a lot of food for two but absolutely no flavour!!! The two things that did have flavour, the melted cheese with the chips and the salsa, were just spicy and not tasty. So Taco Del Mar I bid you adios!!!!
