Montanas
Walmart Complex, Kamloops
Today, I went to Montanas for lunch. I was meeting four other people. I was about 15 minutes early, but they seated me. I asked for a newspaper, and the server said she would be back shortly with a paper. I sat and waited...and waited...and waited. Not only did I not get a paper but also not one person talked to me or asked me if I wanted something to drink...Twenty minutes later, the server finally asked me if I wanted something to drink...at the same time, my friends arrived. We decided that we should go elsewhere, and we told two other people who were going into the restaurant that it was too busy...I won't be racing back to Montanas anytime soon as they don't seem to have the time for us. So Montanas, just so you know, we ordered about $72 and left a $11 tip....and the lose of other business...priceless...or is it profitless?

East Side Mario's
Aberdeen Mall, Kamloops
This not a place I normally think of to go for a meal; I can make pasta quite easily at home. I like to go here for salad or salad and bread. Last night, I had the linguini chicken tettrazini for $14.69. All pastas come with endless bread served hot with butter...mmmm...and green salad that includes tomatoes and onions or soup. My dining partner had the wedding soup...mmmmm....The pasta was actually very nice. There were fairly large pieces of chicken and whole mushrooms with bits of tomato all served in a creamy sauce. If you ask, you can get a generous shaving of parmesan cheese and ground pepper. This is something I could make easily at home but not bad out in a restaurant. Really, this is all comfort food. I liked the food. I'm not that crazy about the atmosphere...the music is too loud and I feel like the servers are forcing a fun, party-like atmosphere. The food was good, but the service was lacking. I will go back again in about six months not for the service or atmosphere but for endless salad and bread.
