Earls
Columbia St, Kamloops
Although I often eat at this establishment, I've never take the opportunity to review my experience. I go to Earls often already knowing what I want. The Vietnamese Steak Sandwich, the Chicken Quesadilla, the Santa Fe Chicken Salad, the Baked Brie and Chicken Sandwich...I do deviate from these once in a while but these are my favs. Now the one thing about Earls is that it is fairly consistent....and generally consistently good. Tonight, I did deviate from my usual order and had the Cajun Chicken and Cheddar Sandwich. This sandwich with fries is $12.25. However, if you substitute the fries for salad, you will pay an extra $1.00. Ridiculous really!!!! (You would think that with the health initiative in this city, province and country, it would be the other way around). Anyways, as with many of the sandwiches including the Vietnamese Steak Sandwich, there is much more bread than meat (even if you do go for salad and pay the extra $1.00). Even so, the sandwich is tasty although tonight not as spicy as I've had it in the past. Perhaps if there was more meat, one could taste the Cajun flavouring. My salad was fresh and lightly seasoned with the dressing. Unlike other restaurants, Earls actually puts a bit extra on the green salad including carrot, cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries and sunflower seeds. The service was friendly enough and very efficient. At least I didn't have to ask for water every time the waitress came by. While the $1.00 surcharge for salad is appalling, I will probably continue to eat at Earls...for my favs more than anything else.

Frankly Coffee
Landsdown St, Kamloops
I've now been to this coffee shop several times since it has opened. While I don't eat anything or drink anything fancy, the shop has a lot of options. That being said, the coffee menu on the blackboard is hard to read through quickly. The print is small and there really is a lot packed on to that board. This is really not optimal for getting people in and out. The seating is fairly comfortable and the decor easy on the eye. The service is friendly enough but slow to get the drinks out. Yesterday, I had a small Americano for $2.18. As soon as I received the drink, I knew that it would not be all that great. It looked like a very strong tea and had no taste or kick. Given that there is such a high mark up on coffee drinks, one would think that using a bit more coffee would not break the bank. I will visit this shop again only to vary up the locations that I get to meet friends. Frankly, I don't get it.
